Councilman Richard (Rick) Grady has served the citizens of the City of Plano for over 14 years. He also represents the citizens and the city on numerous regional, state and national boards and commissions, including:

  • Delegate to the Dallas Regional Mobility Coalition
  • Delegate to the Regional Transportation Council of the North Central Texas Council of Governments
  • Chairman of the Emergency Preparedness Planning Council of the North Central Texas Council of Governments
  • Delegate to the Policy Committee of the Texas Municipal League
  • President to Region 13 of the Texas Municipal League
  • Delegate on the following National League of Cities' Councils and Committees:
    • Finance, Administration and Intergovernmental Relations
    • Military Communities
    • Large Cities
    • Transportation

In addition he serves on numerous local boards and committees, including

  • Public relations, marketing, and intelligence activities for Fortune 500 companies including Electronic Data Systems (EDS), Affiliated Computer Services (ACS), Computer Task Group (CTG) and the Credit Union National Association (CUNA)
  • Executive direction at The Indus Entrepreneurs Association (TIE)
  • Two public relations agencies
  • A rating-busting rock & roll radio show as a disc jockey in a top 10 market

Rick started his community service at the age of 13 when he joined the Civil Air Patrol, a U.S. Air Force Auxiliary, where he fulfilled a long-standing interest of flying and becoming a pilot. He joined the U.S. Air Force ROTC program in college but was transferred to the U.S. Army. As regular Army, he requested assignment to Vietnam where he served as a non-commissioned officer leading a company of forward air controllers in Vietnam for Military Assistance Command Vietnam and 1st Aviation Brigade, 165th Aviation Group. He was twice field-decorated with the Army Commendation Medal, and he received the Republic of Vietnam Cross for Gallantry with affixed Palm and the Vietnam Service Medal with four bronze stars, one each for his participation in combat campaigns during his tour of duty.

In 2017 he was awarded the United States Congressional Veteran Commendation by Congressman Sam Johnson.

Rick served on city boards and commissions for ten years before his election to City Council, and lives in Plano, Texas. His home is also the residence for his often-traveling daughter, whom he solely raised beginning when she was nine.
