Guinn Special Programs Center Visit

What a delightful day spent with the kids attending the Guinn Special Programs Center. I see great potential in these young adults.

The Special Programs Center is committed to the idea that student competence can be built or rebuilt through an approach that combines individual attention, academic success, behavior adjustment and networking of school and community resources. The school personnel are fantastic and dedicated to our at-risk youth.

Appointed Chair of Emergency Preparedness Planning Council

On July 26, 2018, the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) Executive Board appointed Plano Councilman Richard Grady to a two-year term as the Emergency Preparedness Planning Council (EPPC) Chair.

The Council advises the NCTCOG Executive Board on policy direction and oversight functions, developing and maintaining a coordinated and integrated regional approach to emergency management planning and response systems. The Council may also recommend how the 16‑county region can most efficiently and effectively utilize state and/or federal financial assistance made available for emergency and disaster planning, mitigation, and recovery.

The Emergency Preparedness Department appreciates Mr. Grady’s dedication to regional emergency preparedness. His support and commitment to enhancing lasting partnerships and proactive emergency preparedness initiatives through advocacy, communication, and collaboration continues to be an invaluable asset to EPPC, our department, and our region.

Hidden in Plain Sight?

"In Plano, the so-called recapture tax is projected to increase from $32 million in 2014 to $200 million by next year. - All those taxes aren’t going to poorer districts; the money goes to the state, which also uses it to offset other parts of the budget."

Thank You!

It is with great pride and humility that I thank the citizens of Plano for electing me to their City Council. I look forward to representing the interests of our citizens. As I've mentioned in my campaign, I have a working telephone number and email address, and I expect the citizens to use them. I believe in communication and in my parents philosophy that I have two ears and one mouth, and there is a reason for that.

Thank you for placing your trust in me.

Intercommunity Interfaith

Yesterday was a wonderful community day. I started with the National Day of Prayer at the Christian Prayer Breakfast where we prayed for a stronger community. The highlight of the day was the evening Interfaith Prayer session at City Hall, where ministers of all faiths came together to pray for unity and harmony in our municipality and world. We heard messages from the Baha’i, Buddhist, Church of Christ, Chinese Christians, Hindu, Ismaili, Methodist, Islamic Muslim, Roman Catholic, Sikh, and Unitarians. This was a very moving experience to spend time with all of the cultures of our city. I thoroughly enjoyed the one-hour conversation with all these faith leaders after the prayer session.

Plano Fire Rescue Awards

Feel proud of your Fire Department personnel. At tonight's awards ceremony I sat with many of our city's finest as they honored 13 who have served 25 years on the force, 8 who have served 30 years on the force, numerous citations, two new Deputy Chief promotions, one Captain promotion, one Lieutenant promotion, two fire engineer promotions and one Medal of Valor. There is a lot to be proud of here.

Great Night with the Boy Scouts

I had the great opportunity to address Boy Scout Troop 1999 and help them take steps to gain their Citizens badge. We talked about the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, Bill of Rights and the 17 additional Amendments, and how these documents define our society, rights and laws. These are wonderful Scouts and will contribute greatly to our community.

Forum Participation

Last night I participated in the candidate forum held by the Collin County Young Republicans, Plano Republican Women, Golden Corridor Republican Women, and the Collin County Conservative Republicans. It was a good and enlightening discussion by all, and a good experience. I appreciate meeting and hearing the opinions of all citizens. The information is extremely valuable in decision-making, and certainly in a position where I am trusted to represent all citizens of Plano. We may not always agree on every decision and issue, but as long as we keep an open line of communication, and a willingness to listen as well as speak, we will continue to evolve as a City of Excellence and a neighborhood of warmth and friendship.

Plano Legislative Days in Austin

I just returned from Austin, Texas where I participated with the delegation from the Plano Chamber of Commerce addressing concerns of our citizens and businesses.

We stressed to the law makers our support of local control and opposed any legislation that would erode or diminish home rule authority and local control.

We supported continued incentives and programs that encourage the recruitment of businesses to the state and to the North Texas region.

We supported bills that keep education as the main driver for workforce development and readiness, and supported junior colleges’ abilities to offer specific baccalaureate degrees.

We supported our retailers by opposing a bill that would prohibit retailers from selling televisions or computers unless they also disposed of the consumers’ old televisions or computers, and for free.

We supported bills to improve transportation infrastructure in our area and opposed legislation that would eliminate mass transit rail systems, like DART, from accessing federal funds for expansion, improvement or maintenance.

We opposed the creation of an advisory committee of legislators to oversee all transportation projects, and a requirement to gain State Attorney General approval for any municipal ordinance change.

We supported bills that would allow more rapid building of future water reservoirs.

In short, it was time very well spent and I look forward to continuous discussions during the legislative session.
